My Review

“Paint” is a comedy-drama movie about a man who hosts a popular painting show on public broadcasting. It is largely based on broadcaster Bob Ross, an art instructor who had a similar show on PBS from 1983 to 1994, where he taught people to paint beautiful landscapes. His soft voice, frizzy hair, and sunny personality were all well performed by actor Owen Wilson, but the thin storyline and weak direction by director-screenwriter Brit McAdams lead to a lackluster film.

Co-stars include Stephen Root, Michaela Watkins, Wendi McClendon-Covey, Ciara Renee, Luisa Strus, Denny Dillon, Lucy Freyer, Michael Pemberton, and Evander Duck Jr. as Reuben. The art house cinema film “Paint” was a flop at the box office for Blue Creek Pictures, Silver Lining Entertainment, White Birch Films, and IFC Films.
