My Review

“Pinocchio” is an Italian live-action fantasy film about a woodcarver whose wooden puppet comes to life, leading him on a rocky road to hopefully becoming a fully human child. Italian director Matteo Garrone did an excellent job of putting together this movie with outstanding production values, good acting, and a lucid screenplay he co-wrote with Massimo Ceccherini. The project was filmed in the Italian language, with a version dubbed in English by the major Italian actors. It was adapted from the 1883 Italian children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi.

The cast includes Roberto Benigni as Geppetto, Federico Ielapi as Pinocchio, Gigi Proietti as Mangiafuoco, Rocco Papaleo as the Cat, Massimo Ceccherini as the Fox, Paolo Graziosi as Mastro Ciliegia, and Massimiliano Gallo as Dr. Crow. “Pinocchio” was successful at the box office for Archimede Film, Rai Cinema, Le Pacte, Recorded Picture Company, and Amazon Prime Video. It received two Oscar nods for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and was filmed in Italia.
