My Review

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles” is a holiday road trip comedy about an uptight advertising executive and an overbearing salesman who become reluctant travel companions on a chaotic journey to Chicago for Thanksgiving. Director-screenwriter John Hughes (“Weird Science” 1985) put together another of his classic comedies which capture the funny side of everyday suburban American life.

The film has perfect chemistry between Steve Martin as the advertising executive and John Candy as the good natured but domineering salesman. This plus the excellent material make for a great film comedy classic. Co-stars include Laila Robins, Michael McKean, Dylan Baker, Richard Herd, George O. Petrie, Kevin Bacon, Edie McClurg, Ben Stein, William Windom, and Bill Erwin as a man on the plane.

The watchable “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” was a hit at the box office for producer John Hughes, Hughes Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in upstate New York.
