Pollyanna (2003)

My Review

“Pollyanna” is an English made-for-television movie telling the story of an eleven-year-old who goes to live with her aunt after the death of her parents. Her eternally optimistic attitude wins over friends and neighbors alike, but does not seem to affect her hard-to-please aunt. Director Sarah Harding put together this movie with outstanding production values and from a taut screenplay by Simon Nye, adapted from the 1913 novel of the same name by Eleanor H. Porter.

The cast includes Georgina Terry as Pollyanna, Amanda Burton as Aunt Polly, as well as Kenneth Cranham, Aden Gillett, Pam Ferris, Kate Ashfield, Tom Bell, Tom Ellis, David Bamber, and Judy Flynn as Milly Snow. This film with a 99 minute running time from Carlton Productions was first aired on ITV in the UK on January 1, 2003, and later that year in America on PBS’s “Masterpiece Theater.” “Pollyanna” was previously made into feature films in 1920 starring Mary Pickford from United Artists and in 1960 starring Hayley Mills from producer Walt Disney.
