Pure Country (1992)

My Review

“Pure Country” is a western music drama featuring the film debut of country singer George Strait. While Strait and the cast turned in respectable performances, the screenplay by Rex McGee featured a slow and convoluted storyline with unfocused direction by Christopher Cain, leading to a very unmemorable film. This column literally cannot remember what the movie’s story was about.

The supporting cast featured Leslie Ann Warren, Kyle Chandler, Isabel Glasser, John Doe, Molly McClure, Mark Walters, Julie Johnson, and Rory Calhoun in his final film appearance. His first movie was in 1944. “Pure Country” only made a small profit at the box office for Jerry Weintraub Productions and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed primarily in Texas, with some scenes shot in Las Vegas, Nevada.
