Rio Lobo (1970)

My Review

“Rio Lobo” is a western film that tells the story of a Union officer who seeks revenge for a Confederate raid on his shipment of gold that kills several of his key officers. Director Howard Hawks (“Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” 1953) puts together an exciting and fun movie with outstanding production values and a well penned script by Burton Wohl and Leigh Brackett.

John Wayne is at the top of the cast and at the top of his game as Col. Cord McNally. He can still carry a motion picture at the age of 63. Co-stars include Christopher Mitchum, Jennifer O’Neill, Jorge Rivero, Jack Elam, Victor French, Sherry Lansing, David Huddleston, Mike Henry, Susana Dosamantes, Robert Donner, and Jim Davis.

“Rio Lobo” was filmed in beautiful Technicolor and successful at the box office for producer Howard Hawks, Cinema Center Films, and National General Pictures.
