My Review

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby get into trouble in their employment in a New Orleans circus and must stow away on a cruise ship headed for Rio de Janeiro in “Road to Rio.” They meet co-star Dorothy Lamour on the cruise. Expert direction by Norman McLeod and a laugh-filled screenplay by Edmund Beloin and Jack Rose help make this fifth the highest quality of the seven “Road” pictures. Ad-libbing by Hope and Crosby also helped.

The supporting cast includes Gale Sondergaard, Frank Faylen, George Meeker, Tor Johnson, Jerry Colonna, The Andrews Sisters, The Wiere Brothers, Marquita Rivera, and Frank Puglia. “Road to Rio” was the sixth highest grossing film of 1947 for Bing Crosby Productions, Hope Enterprises, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed entirely on the sound stages and back lot of Paramount Pictures in Hollywood.
