Road to Zanzibar (1941)

My Review

Bing Crosby and Bob Hope embarked on their second “Road” picture in 1941’s “Road to Zanzibar.” Director Victor Schertzinger must have presided over some controlled mayhem as much of the dialogue in these “Road” movies were famously improvised. Whatever the case, Frank Butler and Don Hartman are in the credits as the screenwriters.

The stars include Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour, Una Merkel, Eric Blore, Douglass Dumbrille, Noble Johnson, Luis Albertini, and Joan Marsh as Dimples. “Road to Zanzibar” was a big hit at the box office for Paramount Pictures. Crosby and Lamour performed four main songs between them, all written by Jimmy Van Heusen (music) and Johnny Burke (lyrics).
