Roofman (2025)

My Review

“Roofman” is a crime comedy-drama film based on the real life of fugitive Jeffrey Manchester, who cut holes into the roof of McDonald’s restaurants in order to rob them. He is caught, sentenced to prison, and escapes, and hides for six months in a Toys-R-Us store. Loads of comedy and drama proceed from there, with focused direction by Derek Clanfrance, who co-wrote the lucid screenplay with Kirt Gunn.

Channing Tatum is featured in the title role, doing an excellent job with a layered performance. Co-stars include Kirsten Dunst as his love interest, Peter Dinklage as the Toys-R-Us manager, Ben Mendelsohn as Kirsten’s church pastor, Tony Revolori as the McDonald’s manager, LaKeith Stanfield and Juno Temple as Jeff’s friends, Melanie Diaz as Jeff’s ex-wife, Molly Price as the police investigator, and Jimmy O. Yang as a used car salesman. “Roofman” was a flop at the box office for Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Charlotte, North Carolina.
