My Review

John Wayne plays a man who is falsely accused of murder and imprisoned, and subsequently escapes to go on a search for the real killer in “Sagebrush Trail.” The horse opera drama proceeds from there. Director Armand Schaefer put together this low-budget 54 minute black-and-white movie which was featured in double features at the theater. The so-so screenplay was written by Lindsley Parsons and Will Beale.

The cast includes John Wayne, Lane Chandler, Yakima Canutt, Wally Wales, Art Mix, Ted Adams, Hank Bell, and William Dyer. “Sagebrush Trail” was a production of Lone Star Productions, Paul Malvern Productions, and Monogram Pictures. It was filmed in Kernville and areas of Los Angeles, including Griffith Park.
