The Best Picture of 1993 is…..”Schindler’s List,” an epic historical drama from producer-director Steven Spielberg that tells the true story of a German businessman who saved the lives of some 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his manufacturing plant. Spielberg and screenwriter Steven Zaillian created a riveting three-hour and fifteen minute film, adapted from the 1982 novel “Schindler’s Ark” by Thomas Kenally.

The stars of the picture include Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, Ralph Fiennes as Nazi Lt. Amon Goth, Ben Kingsley as Schindler assistant Itzhak Stern, and Caroline Goodall as Emilie Schindler. Co-stars include Jonathan Sagall, Embeth Davidtz, Beatrice Macola, Mark Ivanir, Frederich von Thun, Jerzy Nowak, Norbert Weissler, Miri Fabian, and Anna Mucha. It was filmed on location in Krakow, Poland.

“Schindler’s List” was nominated for twelve Academy Awards, and winning seven: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score (John Williams), Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography (Janusz Kaminski), and Best Art Direction. Neeson was nominated for Best Actor, and Fiennes for Best Supporting Actor. The watchable “Schindler’s List” was the fourth highest grossing film of 1993 for producer Steven Spielberg, Amblin Entertainment, and Universal Pictures.
