My Review

“September 5” is a historic drama movie retelling the events of September 5, 1972, when eight Palestinian terrorists took eleven Israeli athletes hostage at the Summer Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. Members of the ABC sports crew were forced to cover hard news for the first time in their careers. Director Tim Fehlbaum (“The Colony” 2021) put together an excellent look back at a crucial moment in broadcast history.

The ensemble cast includes Peter Sarsgaard as Roone Arledge (President of ABC Sports), Benjamin Walker as reporter Peter Jennings, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, Zinedine Soualem, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, and Marcus Rutherford. ABC anchor Jim McKay appears in archival footage. “September 5” was a modest success in theatrical release from producer Sean Penn, Projected Picture Works, Constantin Film, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Munich, Germany, and received one Oscar nod for Best Original Screenplay.
