Sicario (2015)

My Review

“Sicario” is a hard-hitting crime drama with good direction, great writing, and fantastic performances. This story of three government agents pursuing drug dealers across the U. S.-Mexican border, mainly in Texas, makes for a fast-moving 121 minute running time. Primary actors Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio de Toro deliver career-defining performances with tight direction by Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival” 2016) and a marvelous screenplay by Taylor Sheridan.

Co-stars include Jeffrey Donovan, Jon Bernthal, Daniel Kaluuya, Victor Garber, Raoul Trujillo, Bernardo Saracino, Julio Cesar Cedillo, and Maximilano Hernandez as a Sonora state police officer. “Sicario” was a modest financial box office winner for Black Label Media, Thunder Road Films, and Lionsgate Films. It was filmed in New Mexico and Mexico, and received three Oscar nods for cinematography, original score, and sound editing.
