My Review

“Tenet” is a spy drama where a CIA operative is tasked with preventing World War III. Director-screenwriter Christopher Nolan (“Dunkirk” 2017) attempted to put together a spy thriller but instead has a film with a lack of focus due to bad writing and sloppy directing. Much of the movie is simply unintelligible and difficult to understand, making for a long two-and-a-half hour running time.

The cast does their best at delivering good performances, but they just seem to babble on incoherently at times. This includes John David Washington (son of Denzel Washington), Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Caine, Elizabeth Debicki, Martin Donovan, Dimple Kapadia, Himesh Patel, Clemence Poesy, Fiona Dourif, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The unwatchable nonsense “Tenet” was the fifth highest grossing film of 2020 for producer Emma Thomas (wife of Nolan), Syncopy, and Warner Bros. Pictures.

It was filmed in Italy, England, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, India, and California. “Tenet” was nominated for two Academy Awards, winning one for Best Visual Effects and one non-winner for Best Production Design.
