My Review

Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Shirley Temple star in the screwball romantic comedy “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer.” It is the story of a teenage girl’s crush on a much older man. Her older sister disapproves, with the hilarity proceeding from there. Irving Reis (“The Big Street” 1942) tightly directed this fun comedy from a smooth-as-silk screenplay by Sidney Sheldon, who later went on to a television career creating shows like “I Dream of Jeannie” and “Hart to Hart.”

The cast includes Shirley Temple as the teenager, Cary Grant as the older man, Myrna Loy as Temple’s sister, Rudy Vallee as assistant district attorney, Ray Collins as a psychiatrist, Harry Davenport as the judge, Johnny Sands as Temple’s boy friend, Dan Tobin as Grant’s lawyer, Lillian Randolph as Myrna’s housekeeper, and Carol Hughes as Florence. “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer” was the eighth highest grossing film of 1947 for producer Dore Schary, Vanguard Films, and RKO Radio Pictures.
