The Book of Henry (2017)

My Review

“The Book of Henry” is an inspiring story of an eleven-year-old boy dying of cancer who leaves detailed instructions to his mum on how to help a neighbor girl suffering under abuse from her stepfather. Director Colin Trevorrow (“Safety Not Guaranteed” 2012) does an excellent job at the helm of the picture from the screenplay by Gregg Hurwitz. Trevorrow instilled the 105 minute film with good production values, excellent writing, and memorable performances.

The cast includes Naomi Watts as the mother, Jaeden Martell as son Henry, Jacob Trembly as son Peter, Sarah Silverman as Watts’ friend, Dean Norris as the police commissioner, Maddie Ziegler as his stepdaughter, Lee Pace as the doctor, Tonya Pinkins as the school principal, Bobby Moynihan as Watts’ boss, Geraldine Hughes as the teacher, and Jackson Nicoll as a student. The watchable “The Book of Henry” was not successful at the box office for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Double Nickle Entertainment, and Focus Features.
