The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954)

“The Bridges at Toko-Ri” is the story of a Navy Reserve pilot stationed in the Sea of Japan during the Korean War. Although suffering from battle fatigue, he agrees to fly a dangerous bombing mission over North Korea. Director Mark Robson and screenwriter Valentine Davies put together a top-rate war drama with excellent production values, memorable performances, striking aerial bombing scenes, and great writing. It was adapted from the 1953 novel by James Michener.

The stars include William Holden as Lt. Brubaker, Grace Kelly as his wife, Fredric March as his superior officer, Mickey Rooney, Robert Strauss, Charles McGraw, Earl Holliman, Keiko Awaji, Richard Shannon, and Dennis Weaver. The watchable “The Bridges at Toko-Ri” was a big hit at the box office for Perlburg-Seaton Productions and Paramount Pictures. This film won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects and nominated for Best Editing. It was filmed in Technicolor.
