My Review

“The Brink of War” is a historical political drama film about the Reykjavik Summit (October 11-12, 1986) between U. S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Chairman Mikhail Gorbachev. Director-screenwriter Michael Russell Gunn did an excellent job on this historical piece with good production values, too-rate writing, and memorable performances. All of this for his first time at the director’s helm of a feature motion picture.

The cast is headed by Jeff Daniels as Reagan, delivering a marvelous performance not with exact imitation, but with capturing the basic personality of the nation’s 40th president. Co-stars include Jared Harris as Gorbachev, J. K. Simmons as George Schultz, Hope Davis as Nancy Reagan, Branka Katic as Raisa Gorbachev, and Tim Dutton as Eduard Shevardnadze. The watchable film “The Brink of War” has been popular at the box office for SK Global, 2521 Entertainment, and Angel Studios. It was filmed on location in Iceland, with excellent cinematography by Magdalena Gorka.
