The Bunker (1981)

My Review

Anthony Hopkins won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Adolph Hitler during the final weeks of his life in “The Bunker.” Hopkins played the infamous dictator as sometimes depressed, sometimes in denial, sometimes feeling betrayed, but always feeling justified in his Third Reich “mission” to the very end.

Director George Schafer kept the made-for-television movie on track, from a quality teleplay by John Gay, adapted from the 1975 book by James P. O’Donnell. The stars of the show are Anthony Hopkins, Richard Jordan, Cliff Gorman, Susan Blakely, Piper Laurie, Michael Kitchen, and Julian Fellowes. This Time-Life Production was aired on CBS on January 28, 1981. Tow other Emmy nods went for Supporting Actress (Laurie) and Film Sound Mixing. It was filmed in Paris, France.
