My Review

“The Cable Guy” is a dark comedy about an unstable cable installer who becomes obsessed with a customer. The cable guy even resorts to stalking the man, with the tone of the film deteriorating from there. The dark themes (such as obsession and stalking), uneven plot lines, and unfunny dialogue plague this movie, due to just plain bad directing by Ben Stiller (“Reality Bites” 1994) and terrible writing by Lou Holtz Jr. Jim Carrey in the title role is as obnoxious as ever; this is no doubt the worst film he has ever appeared in.

Co-stars include Matthew Broderick, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, George Segal, Diane Baker, Eric Roberts, Charles Napier, Janeane Garofalo, Leslie Mann, Andy Dick, Amy Stiller, Kathy Griffin, Bob Odenkirk, and Emilio Rivera. “The Cable Guy” did make some profit in theatrical release for producer Judd Apatow, Licht/Mueller Film Corporation, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed at various locations in Southern California.
