Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain delivered captivating performances as the couple whose multi-million dollar empire fell apart in spectacular fashion back in 1987. Focused direction by Michael Showalter and a gem of a screenplay by Abe Sylvia help keep this project on track, which was based on the 2000 documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.
The supporting cast includes Vincent D’Onofrio as Jerry Falwell, Gabriel Olds as Pat Robertson, Jay Huguley as Jimmy Swaggart, Cherry Jones and Fredric Lehne as Tammy’s parents, Sam Jaeger as Roe Messner, Grant Owens as Colonel Sanders, Coley Company as Dede Robertson, and Lila Jane Meadows as Tammy Sue Bakker. The watchable “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” was a box office bomb for producer Jessica Chastain, Freckle Films, MWM Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company.
It won two Academy Awards – Best Actress (Chastain) and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It was filmed in Charlotte, North Carolina.
