The Four Seasons (1981)

My Review

“The Four Seasons” is the story of three upper-middle class couples who vacation together four times a year. The group’s tight-knit dynamic is broken when one couple divorce and he introduces a new and much younger wife into the group. The drama and comedy proceed from there, fairly well handled by first time director-screenwriter Alan Alda. Much of the script is formulaic and filled with cliches, causing some yawning during the dry spells in the picture.

The three couples are portrayed by Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, Jack Weston and Rita Moreno, Len Cariou and Sandy Dennis. Others include Bess Armstrong as the new girl in town and Beatrice Alda and Elizabeth Alda (the director’s two daughters) as daughters of group members. The sometimes watchable “The Four Seasons” was successful at the box office for Universal Pictures. It was filmed in Vermont, Virginia, and Georgia.
