The Great Lover (1949)

My Review

Bob Hope’s comedic talents are working on all cylinders in “The Great Lover.” He plays a boy scout leader who takes his troop on an ocean cruise, falls in love with a beautiful duchess, and is stalked by a serial killer. Director Alexander Hall (“Here Comes Mr. Jordan” 1941) kept the project on an even keel, aided by a good screenplay by Edmund Beloin, Melville Shavelson, and Jack Rose.

The cast includes Bob Hope, Rhonda Fleming, Roland Young, Roland Culver, Gary Gray, George Reeves, Jim Backus, and Jack Benny in a hilarious cameo. “The Great Lover” was a huge box office smash success for producer Edmund Beloin and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed at Paramount studios in Hollywood.
