“Catch us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines – For our vines have tender grapes.” This Biblical passage from Song of Solomon 2:15 inspired the title of the film “The Little Foxes,” a story about a struggle among members of a wealthy Southern family over money and finances. The high drama often gets ugly.

Director William Wyler (“Ben Hur” 1939) and screenwriter Lillian Hellman created an absorbing and well-paced two hour drama with an outstanding cast. This includes Bette Davis, Teresa Wright, Herbert Marshall, Richard Carlson, Dann Duryea, Charles Dingle, Patricia Coolidge, Virginia Brissac, and Russell Hicks. “The Little Foxes” was popular at the box office for producer Samuel Goldwyn and RKO Radio Pictures. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards with no wins.
