The Many Saints of Newark (2021)

My Review

“The Many Saints of Newark” is a crime drama movie which is a prequel to the HBO television series “The Sopranos” (1999-2007). It tells the story of a young Tony Soprano as he is mentored by his uncle, Dickie Moltisanti. Director Alan Taylor and producer-screenwriter David Chase seemed to be content with a mere reciting of the facts of the early years of Soprano and his family, as the film suffers from unfocused writing and sloppy directing.

“The Many Saints of Newark” is also marked by mediocre performances, especially Michael Gandolfini as the original Tony. Bad casting, despite the fact that he is son of James Gandolfini, the original Tony Soprano. Co-stars include Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Leslie Odom Jr., Billy Magnussen, Ray Liotta, Vera Farmiga, Talia Balsam, Michela Di Rossi, John Magaro, and Michael Imperioli. The unwatchable mob picture “The Many Saints of Newark” was a box office bomb for Home Box Office, New Line Cinema, Chase Films, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in New Jersey and New York.
