The Old Man and the Gun (2018)

My Review

Four Oscar winners star in the delightful comedy-drama western film “The Old Man and the Gun.” Robert Redford plays a senior citizen bank robber who charms his victims, Casey Affleck portrays the police detective hot on his trail, Sissy Spacek is Bob’s love interest, and Keith Carradine plays the police captain.

Director-screenwriter David Lowery (“Pete’s Dragon” 2016) based this movie on the true life story of career criminal Forrest Tucker (1920-2004), as chronicled in David Grann’s 2003 article in The New Yorker magazine. Lowery paced this film perfectly, allowing for maximum character development.

Co-stars include Danny Glover, John David Washington, Elizabeth Moss, Tika Sumpter, Tom Waits, and Isaiah Whitlock Jr. The watchable “The Old Man and the Gun” was a modest success in theatrical release for Wildwood Entertainment, Endgame Entertainment, Rocket Science, CNE, Identity Films, Tango Productions, and Fox Searchlight Pictures. It was filmed in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Texas.
