The Other Love (1947)

My Review

Barbara Stanwyck stars as a concert pianist who checks into a hospital in Switzerland to treat an advanced lung illness, only to rebel against doctors orders by engaging in a partying lifestyle in “The Other Love.”

Director Andre DeToth (“House of Wax” 1953) put together this film noir melodrama with the help of screenwriters Harry Brown and Ladislas Fodor. The film provides adequate production values and escapist entertainment and contains very close similarities to “Camille,” the 1936 movie starring Greta Garbo.

The cast include Barbara Stanwyck, David Niven, Richard Conte, Gilbert Roland, Joan Loring, and Natalie Schafer. “The Other Love” was a major box office flop for Enterprise Productions and United Artists. It was filmed at various studios in Hollywood rather than the setting in Europe.
