My Review

“The Phoenician Scheme” is a black comedy about a ruthless businessman who names his estranged daughter, a nun, as the sole heir of his estate. Her nine brothers and other business rivals have something to say about this with the kooky drama and comedy proceeding from there. Director-screenwriter Wes Anderson (“Asteroid City” 2023) created a witty black comedy from a story he developed with Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola.

The cast includes Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Rupert Friend, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hope Davis, F. Murray Abraham, William Dafoe, and Bill Murray. The watchable art house cinema resident “The Phoenician Scheme” was a modest hit at the box office for producer Wes Anderson, Indian Paintbrush, American Imperial Pictures, Focus Features, and Universal Pictures. It was filmed in Germany.
