The Revenant (2015)

My Review

Leonardo DiCaprio won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of a man who is mauled by a huge grizzly bear and left for dead and to recover on his own in “The Revenant.” Director Alejandro G. Inarritu (“Birdman” 2014) put together a riveting Western drama which took place in 1823. He co-wrote the screenplay with Mark L. Smith, adapted from the 2002 novel of the same name by Michael Punke. It is also a remake of “Man in the Wilderness” (1971) starring Richard Harris.

The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, Lukas Haas, and Grace Dove. “The Revenant” was a huge hit at the box office for Regency Enterprises, RatPac Entertainment, Anonymous Content, Appian Way Productions, M Productions, and 20th Century Fox. It was nominated for twelve Academy Awards, winning three – Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Director, and Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). It was filmed in Alberta, British Columbia, and Montana.
