The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947)

My Review

“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is a comedy film about an editor at a book publishing company who constantly daydreams that he is involved in exciting situations to escape his mundane job. Director Norman Z. McLeod (“The Kid from Brooklyn” 1946) put together a film with good production values which is an excellent vehicle for the talents and personality of Danny Kaye. The clever screenplay was penned by Ken Englund and Everett Freeman, adapted from a 1939 short story by James Thurber.

The supporting cast includes Virginia Mayo, Boris Karloff, Fay Bainter, Thurston Hall, Ann Rutherford, Gordon Jones, Florence Bates, Reginald Denny, and Fritz Feld. “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” was a big hit in theatrical release for producer Samuel Goldwyn and RKO Radio Pictures. A remake came out in 2013 “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” starring Ben Stiller.
