The Spy Next Door (2010)

My Review

Jackie Chan plays a spy who becomes involved in an international incident when his girlfriend’s 9-year-old son accidentally downloads a secret Russian file in “The Spy Next Door.” Director Brian Levant (“Beethoven” 1992) put together a predictable formulaic comedy from a mediocre script by Jonathan Bernstein, James Greer, Gregory Poirer. This picture is filled with misfired jokes and lame gags, along with Chan’s fading martial arts abilities.

The cast includes Jackie Chan as the CIA spy, Amber Vanetta as his girlfriend, Magnus Scheving as the Russian operative, Lucas Till as his assistant, Billy Ray Cyrus as Chan’s partner, George Lopez as Chan’s boss, and Madeline Carroll, Will Shadley, and Alina Foley as Amber’s children.. The unwatchable espionage comedy “The Spy Next Door” only made a small profit in theatrical release for Relativity Media, The Robert Simonds Company, and Lionsgate Films. Cyrus and Lopez were both nominated for Razzie Awards, Worst Supporting Actors. It was filmed in New Mexico.
