My Review

Director Mario Van Peebles’ heart was in the right place in his attempt to depict the bravery of our Navy men in World War II in “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage.” However, this film suffers from poor writing, confusing plots and subplots, bad special effects, terrible performances, and astonishingly inaccurate attention to period detail. The screenplay was penned by Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro.

Nicolas Cage was a terrible choice to play Captain Charles McVay. Cage does not have the screen presence, the persona, or the acting ability to pull off a major role such as a war hero. His range as an actor is very limited. The rest of the cast is no better in this project – Tom Sizemore, James Remar, Thomas Jane, Matt Lanter, Brian Presley, et al. “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage” was a box office bomb for Patriot Pictures, Hannibal Classics, and Saban Films.
