Venom (2018)

My Review

“Venom” is the story of a disgraced reporter and his “merger” with an alien symbiote named Venom, as they battle evil corporations and another symbiote named Riot who is out to destroy the Earth. Director Ruben Fleischer (“Gangster Squad” 2013) presided over a disaster area of a film due to a confusing plot, poorly written dialogue, and mediocre performances. The atrocious screenplay was penned by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, Kelly Marcel. This is the first film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

The under-achieving cast includes Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, and Stan Lee. “Venom” was the seventh highest grossing film of 2018 for Marvel Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, Tencent Pictures, Pascal Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. Two sequels include “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021) and “Venom: The Last Dance” (2024).
