What Women Want (2000)

My Review

Mel Gibson plays a womanizer who suffers an electric shock and gains the ability to read the minds of women in “What Women Want.” The wacky comedy proceeds from there, with Gibson being perfect in this comedic role. His co-stars include Helen Hunt, Marisa Tomei, Alan Alda, Judy Greer, Delta Burke, Valerie Perrine, Eric Balfour, Lauren Holly, Mark Feuerstein, Ashley Johnson, Loretta Devine, Ana Gasteyer, and Bette Midler as Dr. Perkins.

Director Nancy Meyers (“The Parent Trap” 1998) skillfully crafted this hilarious comedy, with an excellent screenplay by Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, and Diane Drake. “What Women Want” was the fourth highest grossing film of 2000 for producer Nancy Meyers, Icon Productions, Wind Dancer Films, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in Chicago and Los Angeles. A loose remake came out in 2019 called “What Men Want.”
