Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2019)

My Review

Cate Blanchette turns in another sterling performance, this time as an anti-social architect who leaves her husband and daughter in Seattle and flees to Antarctica. Director Richard Linklater (“Bernie” 2011) gave Blanchette the room and the material to delve deeply into the multi-layered character. He co-wrote the screenplay with Holly Gent and Vince Palmo, adapted from the 2012 novel of the same name by Maria Semple.

The supporting cast includes Billy Crudup and Emma Nelson as her husband and daughter, Kristen Wiig, Zoe Chao, David Paymer, Megan Mullally, Laurence Fishburne, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, and Kate Burton (daughter of Richard Burton). “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” was a flop at the box office for Annapurna Pictures, Color Force, Detour Filmproduction, and United Artists Releasing. It was filmed in Seattle, Vancouver, and Greenland.
