Why Him? (2016)

My Review

James Franco and Bryan Cranston do a great job of playing the boyfriend vs. the future father-in-law in “Why Him?” The screenplay which director John Hamburg (“I Love You, Man” 2009) co-wrote with Ian Helfer did contain stock humor and formulaic comedy, but his expert direction made it into a very entertaining show.

Great chemistry between Franco and Cranston and the daughter, played by Zoey Deutch, help the 111 minute running time move rapidly. Co-stars include Megan Mullally, Keegan-Michael Key, Cedric the Entertainer, Griffin Gluck, Kaley Cuoco, Mary Pat Gleason, Gene Simmons, and Elon Musk. “Why Him?” was a hit at the box office for producer Ben Stiller, Red Hour Productions, 21 Laps Entertainment, 75 Year Plan Productions, and 20th Century Fox. It was filmed in Los Angeles, California, and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
