You’ve Got Mail (1998)

My Review

“You’ve Got Mail” is a romantic comedy about two people involved in an online romance who are unaware that they are business rivals. Sparks fly when the truth is revealed. Director Nora Ephron skillfully crafted this engrossing film with few inconsistencies in the plot, from the screenplay she co-wrote with Delia Ephron.

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have excellent chemistry as they flesh out the main characters. This is their third pairing, previously appearing in “Joe Versus the Volcano” (1990) and “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993). They would also both be in the cast of “Ithaca” (2015), directed by Ryan.

Co-stars include Parker Posey, Jean Stapleton, Dave Chappelle, Steve Zahn, Greg Kinnear, Dabney Coleman, John Randolph, Heather Burns, and Jane Adams as a television interviewer. The watchable “You’ve Got Mail” was a big hit at the box office for producer Nora Ephron, Lauren Shuler Donner Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in New York City.
